KYLE  ROBERTS

My Story: I became paralyzed at the age of 19 on April 8 2004 while at a fishing camp in Bay St. Louis, MS. I was leaning up against a balcony that was nailed into rotten wood and it suddenly collasped. I fell ten feet hitting my back at the T-10 level (belly button area) becoming paralyzed from the waist down.  For months, I had to learn my body all over again. I started from the ground up. I began lifting for rehab and the stamina to sit in my wheelchair. I did this to be with my family. My family was behind me through all my difficulties. They stuck with through the rough and I want to thank them deeply from the bottom of my heart. I did not want my injury to be a stereotype of what most people think. I wanted the public to see me as an inspiration and not to be looked down upon because of a simple wheelchair.

When I was in the hospital at Touro doing rehab. I saw kids younger than I who were from the neck down and had brain damage. They would look at me with their eyes and I could tell they would give anything to be in my condition. That was it. This made me promise them and others in wheel chairs to give us a good name. I was not going to let them down. I would do anything for them and I was going to put myself out there to let the world know we are not different.

That is when I decided to train for bodybuilding to prove to all those who might have some doubt. I do bodybuilding for myself but more importantly for all those who have some difficulties to overcome. Lifting and training for competitions is unique in itself. I have to adapt and overcome exercises that most do with ease. I am paralyzed from the waist down but I can still compete and I compete in a wheelchair. This past November I won the wheelchair division at the FAME North American Championships in Miami.

My motivational quote:  "No Regrets".

RYAN  LYN

I began weight training when I was 16 to get a bit stronger for high school wrestling- that's when I got hooked.  Since then I've competed in everything from ju-jitsu to cheerleading.  I am now a personal trainer  and love this industry!  I want to compete as a personal fitness goal, but also to motivate my clients.  Plus, doing this  will encourage my training and nutrition to be more intense.

My training goals are to sculpt a lean and symmetrical physique, but also stay functional enough to keep up in any sport.  I've made a lot of progress in the last six months while training for FAME and I want to show my clients the changes that can be made simply by training with intensity and applying a sound nutrition plan.

I have the same training philosophy for myself and for my clients:  Always be the one working the hardest.

RODDRICK HOFRICHTER

Roddrick's Story:

Strength training and amateur bodybuilding has been a passion of Roddrick's for over 10 year now. This passion actually started in his garage when he was about 16 yrs old! Roddrick is a firm believer in on going education ensuring that he stays on top of the game. He also believes that balance is the key to life in all aspects. Now he is a certified Chef and his strong culinary and nutritional background has proven to be an asset in the quest to achieving his own personal goals as a competitive athlete.

Age: 30     Height: 5’ 6””    Gym: PerformX training and wellness centre

Personal Philosophy:

Being born with PDI (primary immune deficiency) he was often told that there may be limitation of what he can do. He's never looked at it that way and has never let it hold him back! "I believe that our limitations are merely self induced for fear of success or failure. A wise man one said 'Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate... Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure! It is our light, not our darkness, that frightens us'.

    LAEL SAUTER

My Story: I have been a lifetime true natural bodybuilder and have been training for 15 years. The first 3/4 of those years were spent doing what I read in the magazines, high reps, high sets, hour and a half workouts, etc. I have good genetics and grew stronger and took my high school weight room supervisors advice and did plenty of squats. Over the years I developed a well balanced physique, however, I had no idea how to eat properly to maintain my hard earned muscle. I played the catch up game every month of gain some, lose some as I did not eat properly.

I was strong enough to join the police service in 2000 and met my sergeant, who was a power lifter. He taught me about the importance of protein. I invested in protein, however, still did not make significant gains. I was not a hard gainer, rather an undernourished bodybuilder who trained way too much in pursuit of size. I took a Fitness and Nutrition diploma program and learned about proper training and eating. As I applied my new knowledge my physique improved and began to resemble those in the glossy magazines. I went on to become a certified personal trainer as a side job. I was convinced by members at my gym to do a bodybuilding show. I figured that if I learned how to diet for a show and knew what dedication it took, I would have better personal knowledge to give to my clients. I won my category and best poser award in my first show. I was a Northern Alberta men's light-weight champion. This show got me hooked in the bodybuilding scene. I took the rest of the year off and trained for the provincial championships. I put on some extra lean muscle and moved up to welter-weight where I took a respectable 3rd in my category. This qualified me for the Canadian National's. I did the National's this year where I placed 5th in my category out of 10 contenders. Not bad for a drug free bodybuilder competing in non-drug tested events. If I could do well against this calibre of bodybuilders, I would like to try my hand at a natural show. Once an athlete hits the national level in non-drug tested events, the playing field is nowhere near level as there are many chemical enhancements in the mix.

I am now at a point in my learning that training with weights should be quick and simple. I train 3 times a week, low volume, low sets, very heavy and out of the gym in less than an hour. The results speak for themselves and my strength increases even while dieting for a show. I took everything I've been doing over the earlier years and threw it all out the window. The new training and dieting make my life so much easier. No more fatigue, no more cravings and I have fell back in love with bodybuilding again. Once you learn how to do it properly and stop taking the advice of all the others in the locker room or follow the magazine workouts, and learn sound nutrition and training techniques and recovery principles based on proven and applied science and results, bodybuilding and competing is no longer a struggle, it's easy.

Inspiration: I choose to remain drug free as I have my own children and students at the school that I work at as their officer to inspire. I know they look up to me and respect what I say. I have to remain true and integrity can not be compromised. I run the VIC WEIGHT CLUB at the school where I instruct youth on proper nutrition and training. I compete for the fun of it, because I want to inspire others and see just how far I can humanly take my body while I am still young enough to do it.

BRAD BORLAND
My Story:

I got started in weight training actually indirectly through my brother. When I was 15 years old my parents gave my brother a weight set to improve on his martial arts. He didn't take to it all that much and I picked it up (literally) and the rest was history. I always wanted to be involved in something that was all mine. I wanted to be the athlete, coach, motivator, everything. I didn't decide to compete until my early twenties. It's not that I was nervous about being on stage or anything; I just wanted to do it naturally and found it difficult to find natural shows locally. I finally found one about 100 miles away, so a friend of mine and me packed a truck and headed to Mobile, Alabama and I won my first novice show! Since then I have been hooked.

I went on to earn my Bachelors and Masters Degrees in Kinesiology. I have trained and coached many from all aspects of life from the competitive bodybuilder and athletes to the elderly and rehabilitated. I have trained in wellness clinics, hospitals, health clubs, student recreation facilities, and have helped many with diets and eating habits.

I am also a member of the Air National Guard and proudly served in Afghanistan in 2003. However, upon
coming home from Afghanistan I was diagnosed with Hodgkins Lymphoma, an immune system cancer. My brother and father had the same type of cancer before, but I thought it would somehow skip me. I went through 8 1/2 months of chemotherapy. I lost over 30 pounds, a little hair, and a lot of energy. I would not have done as well as I have if it was not for all of my family and friends checking up on me from time to time and keeping good company. A special thank you to my parents for all of their love and support. And also thank you to all that wrote to me or called, it was much appreciated and worth it.

Love of Bodybuilding: I love bodybuilding because of the challenge you put on yourself. You are the product, creator, and everything in between. It is unlike any other sport. It embodies so many principles such as discipline, dedication, hard work, mental focus, sacrifice, triumph, and the list goes on. Presently this has evolved into something more because now I compete for myself and for the pure joy of competition. More triumphs and challenges are yet to come, but as long as God is on our side anything is possible!

BRYAN  KLUKE

My Story:
I was drawn to FAME because of the way that the WNSO promoted the induction of new and unexperienced athletes, alsothe media coverage provided was unsurpassed. As I saw other shows, I quickly understood that the level of professionalism, and organization were unsurpassed. The draw to compete can only be explained as a natural progression for myself. Competing with FAME was a justification to call myself an athlete and a competitive bodybuilder. The more and more I compete, the more of a reward I feel for selecting a natural and healthy lifestyle. Thanks FAME!
